Carnatic Vocals

One of the two main subgenres of Indian classical music, Carnatic music is commonly associated with the modern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Carnatic music started as devotional music but is now used as a medium of self-expression and creative exploration. The two main elements of this music are Raga, known as the mode of the melody type and Tala which is the rhythmic cycle. The different combination between Raga and Tala is how Carnatic music is sung. The vocals are of significant importance in Carnatic music. Even when instruments are played solely, they imitate the singing and characteristic features of vocal music.
