Gond painting is a famous Indian tribal art, aoriginal to the Gond tribe of Central India. It is now considered to be the traditional art of Madhya Pradesh, since it originated & thrives in the Patangarh village, Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh.

The modern day Gond art has evolved from two types of tribal painting techniques, namely Digna and Bhittichitra. A traditional geometric pattern is the characteristic of the Gond style of art, typically done on the walls & floors of the village houses of the Gond tribe.

Images of plants, animals, and signature patterns of dots, fine lines, dashes, fish scales, water drops, seed shapes, spirals, curved lines, & other geometric shapes give this type of folk art its own distinctive style.

According to traditional practice, only natural colours are used to paint the images on the walls & floors. But with time, present-day artists have started using other commercially available colours like acrylic paints & poster colours.
