Scratch is a visual programming language created in 2007 by the MIT Media Lab. It is designed, developed and moderated by the Scratch Foundation which is a nonprofit organisation. In May 2020, Scratch ranked as the 19th most popular programming language. It is the most popular coding community for kids. It is designed especially for ages 8 to 16 but is widely used by people of all ages. Its simple interface enables users to design and create digital stories, games and animation. It even has its own paint editor and sound builder. Scratch allows anyone to learn programming with no knowledge or prior experience. Unlike other coding languages that are text-based wherein the code is written using text and symbols, Scratch commands are made with the use of colorful blocks and a programme is created by snapping these blocks together. Scratch is available in more than 70 languages and is used in more than 200 countries.
Coding is a valuable skill in today’s world and kids can benefit a lot by learning it at a very young age.
